Work experience
State Rep. Bettie Scott retired from the Detroit Police Department as a sergeant after more than 17 years of service. During her time with the police force she earned numerous honors and citations, including Chief Merit Awards and medals for saving citizens' lives.
Community Involvement
In addition to serving her community on the Detroit police force, Rep. Scott is an active community member. She helped create Detroit's Adopt-A-Cop Program for at-risk children. She sits on the Philip Sims Senior Housing board and is a member of the Morningside Community Organization council. Rep. Scott founded the Calumet Townhouses Community Board, and she formerly served as the president of the 3-Mile Block Club. She is a member of the Detroit Chapter of the American Business Women's Association, the National Council of Negro Women and the Detroit Association of Colored Women. Rep. Scott also has been a precinct delegate for more than 10 years.
Education
Rep. Scott earned a bachelor’s degree in education and sociology from Wayne State University. She graduated from the School of Police Staff and Command at Northwestern University.
Family
Rep. Scott is married to Randolph J. Scott. She has a son, Alvin, and a stepdaughter, Jennifer.
